The Lost History of Spain’s Most Popular Music and Dance Form
Music is a main type of art that uses sound as its medium; components of music are pitch, melody, harmony, tempo and rhythm. In all country and in every culture, music plays a vital role in society; it is used a variety of purposes such as traditions, religious acts, entertainment and a whole lot more.
Spain is a country abundant with a lot of classes of music, as unique as the different types of architecture, paintings, and sculptures that they have produced over the years. Spain’s cultural influences had together with it mostly the Ancient Roman and Greek music and dance technique, although several other influences came and present their identity in Spain’s history such as the Visigoths, Jews, Moors, and the likes. To deeply be interested Spain’s art and music, you have to travel to Spain and experience it for yourself, however you first need to understand and be able to communicate some basic Spanish language, and the easiest way to achieve that is to search for websites like Rocket Spanish which offer basic Spanish lessons as well as basic Spanish cultural lessons. Rocket Spanish is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.
When one get a notion of Spanish music, one cannot help but think about Flamenco because it is, without a doubt, one of the most famous dance forms that came from Spain. Further knowledge of Flamenco, however, will present that it had a troubled past in its own country. Each region in Spain has different musical styles and Andalusia’s neighboring regions are not an exception simply because of the numerous influences Spain had with different countries.
Flamenco, an Andalusian cultural folk music, has three parts; one is cante or song, the baile or dance and the guitarra or guitar. The style of Flamenco that originated from Andalusia is popular for its complex and speedy passages, and the dance is described by audible footwork similar to tap dancing. The amazing detail is that a number is still unanswered about Flamenco as an art form.
Andalusia was one of the poorest, most ignored locations in Spain during the generation when Flamenco first made its popularity in the country. A different research states that Flamenco is a fusion of gypsy dance and the descendants of Moorish music during the 8th century up to the 17th century; still, there are various groups that believe that more than the gypsy and Moorish influence, musical influences coming from India, Egypt and the Byzantine church also performed an important part in shaping Flamenco. Because Flamenco was mostly being danced by lower levels of society, the upper class people and historians did not care much in recording their music, so there are very little datas and records that can be found. Another significant reason in adding to the difficulty in the study of the origin of Flamenco is that the number of people who danced it were uneducated and did not know how to write so they maintained the music and culture through oral tradition, and to make matters worse they were being persecuted during the Spanish inquisition in 1492.
Researchers and historians, as well as experts today are still trying to determine the exact roots and history of Flamenco; it’s not even clear where and how Flamenco got its name. So much so that until the present generation, many people is trying to acquire more information and do this musical and dance style all over the world.
On a scale of 1 to 10, where does your dressing style and fashion stand?
And what type of outfits would you give a full 10 score?
What as in, how FASHIONABLE? Best would be about a 2. I love the clothes I wear but they're not in fashion. I'm into fairy dresses and orange lipstick. Skinny jeans are cool though. I try to keep in the trends, I raid charity shops and stuff to make my outfits. I put a lot of effort in though, don't get me wrong.
