Hunting And Varmint Triggers For The Rem 700
Countless gun cupboards will boast a seldom used, but much loved Remington 700. You don't want to loan out your latest and best so it's good to have a knock about 700 you can loan out or use as a back-up if your precious new rifle or its scope fails during hunting season. Many older 700s are still worked hard in the unting field. These splendid rifles were given dire triggers by the manufacturer in an attempt to ward off law suits. However, whilst we all want the best accuracy from our firearms, we're not all loaded. It's important to get the most accurate bang for our buck. Nothing will boost the accuracy of your rifle like a new trigger. These three triggers offer inexpensive options to greatly enhance the accuracy of your rifle.
The cheapest trigger in our review is of no less quality than the most expensive - it sacrifices adjustability for cold weather reliability and uses far fewer parts. The Jard Remington 700 trigger kit includes a few replacement components that will shift the balance point of your trigger's sear engagement to an accurately calculated point to cut its pull weight. Polished, hardened steel mating surfaces ensure a clean crisp break. It's lack of complexity makes this a very reliable unit. Ultra reliability in damp and very cold conditions is all but guaranteed by the small number of properly treated steel components. 7 and 14 oz. pulls are ideal for varminting whilst 28 oz. is a good, dafe pull weight for deer hunting and other dynamic shooting pursuits. Despite the lack of pull weight adjustment this unit gives a very crisp consistent pull. Right or left handed actions can be fitted with this unit.
The next step up the price ladder is the Shilen Remington 700 Standard trigger. The Shilen also fits the 40X rifle and XP100 pistol and gives a match grade trigger pull. This unit is adjustable for weight of pull, sear engagement and overtravel. The trigger blade is smooth and narrow. The Shilen Remington 700 trigger offers a crisp, light trigger pull, adjustable from 1½ to 3 lb. Unlike some competitors' units the adjustments, undertaken via allen head set screws, are locked down by hex nuts that won't move even under the fiercest recoil. A smooth pull is ensured by polishing of the internal components. Two pins secure this drop-in fitted unit in place. This unit works with the original factory safety. Additional components are needed if the trigger is to work with a Mark X pro trigger. The Shilen Rem 700 Std trigger is available in both blued and stainless steel to suit your rifle's construction and finish. Shilen also offer a 'Competition' unit with a much lighter pull which can be fitted to rifles of either hand.
The Rifle Basix Remington 700 trigger employs an aluminium housing with heat treated and polished steel internals. Weight of pull, length of pull and let-off are adjustable and the unit comes in four different weight ranges for both pre 2006 and 2006 and later rifles. The pre 2006 unit which only fits units not fitted with Mark X pro triggers, reuses the existing factory bolt stop and safety whereas the 2006 and later unit comes with a bolt release and safety. This unit has a much wider, serrated trigger for those who prefer one. Only right handed rifles can be fitted with this trigger.
