Where can I see samples of vintage Drexel Furniture types online?
In cleaning out my grandparents' basement, I discovered several beautiful, well-preserved pieces of vintage Drexel mahogany furniture. There is a six piece bedroom set, a desk, and a buffet (sideboard). According to my mother, this furniture was purchased around 1930. I want to determine which line these pieces came from, so that I can research the value. Does anyone know of an online (or other) resource with detailed photos of antique fine furniture lines?
There is no such animal -- I know because I had to establish value for a Drexel Declaration series set of furniture from my parents' estate a few years ago. Your best bet is to run searches on Ebay or via Google on "vintage Drexel" and scan photos that you find and watch values.
Used furniture is trickey to valuate and sell. It is only worth what someone who is willing to come get it is willing to pay. My parent's mid century Danish modern Drexel Declaration dining set would have been worth $2500 or more if I lived in Chicago or LA where such design is popular. Since I live in a city where it is NOT popular I only got $600 for it. In fact, a guy drove all the way from Chicago to buy the buffet for $300 but I had to sell the table and chairs for $300 since no one here was interested and they were too big to ship easily. This was true even though they were in excellent condition and the table was ultra rare.
