She Should Have Known He'd Give In
She was looking forward to a small wedding and reception with her family and a few close friends. But, he was not helping much in preparing for it. He stood there and repeated that the gold bands didn't look like men wedding bands. After the long shopping trip she was ready to argue.
She explained that gold bands were generic and hers would be the same only with an engagement ring next to it. All he kept saying was he didn't want a feminine ring. She asked him what he expected them to buy as an alternative. He looked like a man with no clue. She repeated that a gold band was not going to look feminine.
When her parents met this guy she planned to marry, they were unimpressed. The first words out of their mouths were an inquiry into his IQ and his job prospects. It was impossible to tell them she wanted to marry him cause she liked the way he looked. His sexy blue eyes and thick blond hair were enough to make up for his slightly lower level of intelligence.
Sometimes she wondered how smart their children would be if they had any. But, after analyzing the situation she decided her higher IQ would compensate for his lower one. The problem of him finding a better job could be worked on after the honeymoon. She didn't often plan ahead anyways.
Today she was focusing on the massive carved bed she wanted. She steered him away from the modern uninteresting furniture he was drawn to. Maybe she would have been content to sleep with him in a loft bed, but she was still getting her king-sized sleigh bed. Sleeping in a loft bed would be very romantic at first though. No, those were for children she thought.
They talked to the salesman in the store and he said the bedroom set she wanted would be open stock for several years. She could buy the bed today, and return for the other matching pieces at a later time. She wasn't completely sure he was telling the truth, but they ordered the new bed and left.
Back at the jewelry store, she looked over the rings again. They asked the salesman if he could point out the most masculine wedding bands for men. She urged her fiance to tell her what he thought of them. He agreed these were more appropriate for him although they were similar to all the others they had looked at. He picked one out, she was relieved and wouldn't have criticized it if it had been ugly. They paid for it and headed for home.
Canopy and Understory trees?
I am doing a environmental studies lab report for my high school science class about the forest density of two different sites. I am wonder what the difference between a canopy and an understory tree is. The trees we are looking at are Ironwood, Maple. Red Oak, Beech, Basswood, Ash, Box Elder, Cottonwood, Cherry, and Buck thorn. Where would I classify each of these trees and does it depend on their DBH (Diameter at Chest Height)?
Canopy trees are those which grow the tallest and have the potential to overtop other plants. Understory trees are smaller, and are (usually) under other trees' leaves. So understory trees have to be more shade tolerant. But it's important to distinguish when you're doing this outside if you're looking at which level the trees are in at the present time, vs the potential of the tree to grow above others. For instance, ironwood is almost always an understory tree, but beech can be a canopy tree. But in some places, you might only find beeches that are uner 20 feet tall, but oaks in the same place are 60 fet or taller. So in this location, beech is an understory tree, but it's capable of being a canopy tree in other places. And sometimes it depends not only on the species, but the location. The same species in eastern states may be an understory tree, but out west, unless it's surrounded by pines, it may be a canopy tree.
Maples can vary by species. A sugar maple can be overstory, but striped maple never is.
The height will be related to the dbh, but isn't always dependent on it. You could have a tall spindly tree, or a fat tree where the top has been broken off.
I would classify them like this based on their capability for growth, but your results might be different depending on the actual height of the trees.
Ironwood - U
Maple - depends on species
Red Oak - C
Beech - C
Basswood - C
Ash - C
Box Elder - U
Cottonwood - depends on species and location
Cherry - usually C, but some species are U
Buckthorn - U
St. Julian Braganini Reserve Meritage Vertical - 4 Pack (woot)
**I Wanna Go Back**
Four years as a kid? Huge! Four years now? Eh, it’s not so far, really.
It’s almost 2012, right? Four years ago it was just 2008. Go on, say it aloud.
2008. Wasn’t so far away, was it?
Now think back to when you were a high school senior. And then remember
yourself in 9th grade. Pretty big difference, right? Different music,
different clothes, different friends… and that was also just four years. But
when you remember it… man, how could you have packed in so much changing?
That’s the feeling you’ll be replicating with the St. Julian Braganini Reserve
Meritage Vertical 4 Pack. These four bottles carry the St. Julian Braganini
Reserve Meritage from 2006 to 2009. You’ll be able to recreate the feeling of
maturity as you enjoy the changes and tastes each year had to offer. Shall we
take you on a tour?
The 2006 St. Julian Braganini Reserve Meritage is eager, still wide-eyed and
innocent. It’s got notes of tea and plum that lead to smooth oak and a daring
hint of tobacco (as long as no one catches it!). Sweet acids finish with a
daringly youthful splash ...
