Thin-Film Solar Cells Lead Legion Of Modern-Day Solar Panels
People have been putting in efforts to improve a different source of energy by harnessing the sun’s potential, all while continuing the fight against the bad effects of global warming. Today, many people use a particular type of solar panel, which is the crystalline silicon, to power their businesses and homes. However, due to the high cost of having this type of solar panel installed, it is very unlikely for crystalline silicon to go into massive production. With this said, people who are living far from the city will not be able to experience the benefits of solar energy. It is a good thing that solar panels made from cheaper materials are already under way.
Thin solar panel film is the new trend in the solar power industry today. This new type is believed to be the gateway for a more competitive solar panel industry, especially in the domestic range. Unlike silicon-wafer cells, one micron thick of light-absorbing layer comprises the thin solar panel film. Solar panels of this type is very lightweight, durable and easy to use.
Different factors make using thin solar panel film more advantageous than traditional solar panels (monocrystalline and polycrystalline). The main reason of the difference between the two types lie in their thickness and their cost of production. The more traditional photovoltaic cells use thin slices of silicon as the main material. The materials used to produce this type of solar cells are actually costly. Because of this, mass production is highly unikely. The thin-film cells, on the other hand, have lower production cost. They cost significantly less than traditional solar cells because they merely need one micron to manufacture a pane. They are harder to produce and distribute because traditional solar panel cells are much thicker than thin-film cells.
Three basic types divide the solar panels of today. These types include the following: amorphous silicon thin-film, cadmium telluride thin-film and copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) thin-film. The type of semiconductor used to manufacture the panel dictates the type of thin-film solar panel produced. The amorphous silicon type makes use of the same science as the traditional solar cells. The main difference lies in the fact that silicon is used to manufacture the solar cells are placed inside flexible metals or plastic. This subtype of thin-film is known to be less efficient despite being more cost-effective.
The second thin-film cells types is known as the cadmium telluride thin-film cells. This new solar power technology is less popular than the other subtypes. Although it is the most affordable among the three subtypes, it is the least efficient. The fact that the substance used to produce these solar cells is toxic makes it even less favored. To explore the long-term effect of this substance, further studies are being conducted. This type of thin-film cells generally has only a 15% efficiency.
The last subtype of thin-film cells is the copper indium gallium diselenide. In terms of cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency, this subtype is known to be the most promising. It has 99% light-absorption capacity and its conversion efficiency is proven to be stable over time.
With the continuous development in solar power industry, especially in thin solar panel film, it wouldn’t take long before we can all enjoy the sun’s power and prevent further damage that greenhouse gases bring.
What were some of the major inventions of the Industrial Age that revolutionized industry and daily life? How?
What were some of the major inventions of the Industrial Age that revolutionized industry and daily life? How did these inventions change American life and culture? How are both positives and negatives of technology apparent?
OK the steam engine really changed everything, it all started in Britain because of coal, wood, and a large population.with the steam engine factories started to pop up in London. millions of people moved there called urbanization. The steam engine made life easier and cheaper increased the output of goods., made them cheaper and you no longer had to make stuff at home you just could buy it cheap. This helped revolutionize the rail industry things could be shipped for a hundred miles a be cheap. now boats could cross the Atlantic in a couple weeks and not take months.. This also changed war too tanks were invented subs and other machines. with the new inventions it helped bring new inventions such as cars and electric. now you didn't need a windmill or a wheel in the water to power stuff. you could burn coal and it boiled water and the stem powered thing coal was dirt cheap because Britain had allot of it. If it was not for the industrial age we wouldn't be living with technology we still would be in the iron age. people also could have stuff the never could afford. a couple negative were the factories were dangerous, poorly lighted and people got paid low wages and also the burning of coal had huge air pollution effects.
